John Moores Painting Prize Trust

The John Moores Liverpool Exhibition Trust was established in 1981 and renamed as the John Moores Painting Prize Trust in 2020.

John Moores’ vision of providing an open and democratic opportunity for artists led to the forming of the guiding principles of the Prize:
Competition is open to all painters living and working in the respective country, and who may submit one work only.

Judgement is based on the merits of the actual work and is made by a panel of expert and independent jurors, where the identity of the artist remains unknown throughout the process.

The guiding principles form the template for the Prize and the open submission competition. They are the ethos of the Prize and will inform any future projects that the JMPP Trust may develop internationally.
